Tie-Dye with Rit Dye (Tutorial)

Tie-dyeing is many people’s introduction to customizing or upcycling clothes. It was definitely one of my first loves. It’s such an easy way to bring a unique design element to the new apparel you’re cooking up, or to spruce up those old Uniqlo tees that gathered yellow stains around the collar after 3 wears (why do they do that?!?!)

Instead of using the typical Tulip tie-dye kits (available at any craft store), I chose to upgrade to Rit-Dye brand and follow the method on their website. It requires a bit more work but the results are beautiful and will stay vibrant longer. I love how the long sleeved Watch Who You Offend tees turned out, and the Nike socks are now a staple in my closet.

Check out the results in the full photoshoot below!

If you’re new to tie-dye and have been wanting to try, or you’re a seasoned vet wanting to try the squirt bottle technique with Rit dye, I’ve created a tutorial to show how I finished my WWYO apparel. You normally see people tie-dye in the warmer months, but as quarantine drags into wintertime I highly encourage you to add this to your list of holiday projects. Have a tie-dye party with family and friends to recycle your tired tees or get crafty (& thrifty) with your holiday gifts :)

Want to tie dye with Rit Dye? I offer this squirt bottle technique tutorial as an alternative to the pre-made tie-dye kits you may be used to! Here's a link ...
